Mental health treatment alternative to paying your fines
Our clients have worked off $196,542.64 in WDP and similar interstate programs
To qualify for a WDP, an individual must meet certain criteria and demonstrate that they cannot pay their fines because of financial hardship, a mental or physical disability, a mental health disorder or other extenuating circumstances. The WDP process is intended to provide a fine payment alternative for individuals who may not be able to pay their fines due to these types of circumstances.
If an individual successfully completes the requirements of their WDP, their fines may be deemed as satisfied.
Mental health treatment WDP activity
If you are seeking to use psychology sessions as an approved activity under the WDP, you will need to meet certain criteria and follow the process established by Fines Victoria.
To use psychology sessions as an approved activity under a WDP, you must first ensure that a qualified and registered psychologist provides the sessions. You will also need to provide documentation to Fines Victoria demonstrating that the psychology sessions are necessary to address a mental health condition or other extenuating circumstances that are related to your inability to pay your fines. Sometimes, a referring doctor’s Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) may satisfy this requirement. An MHTP may also make you eligible for rebates for your psychology sessions through Medicare.
Once you have obtained the necessary documentation and verified that the psychology sessions meet the requirements for an approved WDP activity, you will need to apply to Fines Victoria to approve the psychology sessions as part of your WDP. You will need to provide detailed information about the psychology sessions, including the name of the psychologist, the frequency and duration of the sessions, and any other relevant information. Psych Point may be able to provide this to Fines Victoria on your behalf.
If your application is approved, you will be required to attend the psychology sessions as specified in your treatment plan and to provide documentation to Fines Victoria demonstrating that you have completed the sessions as required. Your psychologist may do this on your behalf.
It is important to note that the use of psychology sessions as an approved activity under a WDP is subject to the discretion of Fines Victoria and may not be approved in all cases. If your application is not approved, you may need to consider other approved activities to fulfil the requirements of your WDP or pay your fine.
