Private health insurance extras for counselling services and psychological intervention can generally be claimed for your visit to a psychologist.
Most private health insurers generally have policies that stipulate that this can only be claimed if it is otherwise solely paid by the insured individual.
For example, you cannot generally claim a Medicare rebate through a Mental Health Treatment Plan, then also claim the gap payment through the private health insurer. It is one or the other that you can use to rebate the session.
This would be covered under the extras coverage that many private health insurers provide.
